MOVE BY POLICE TO USE MODERN TECHNOLOGY TO FIGHT CRIME IS LAUDABLE

It is not every day that we wake up to encouraging news in the papers, however news reports appearing in the dailies this week attributed to Administration Police Commandant Kinuthia Mbugua indicating that security organs would launch a system that will track stolen livestock in regions prone to rustling is indeed refreshing.
This move by the Administration Police must be commended for a number of reasons, among which is the fact that cattle rustling has led to loss of source of livelihoods to persons traditionally known for cattle keeping and  in some instances loss of lives.
The second reason why this move needs to be lauded is the decision to employ new technology to fight crime.
The Kenya police is perhaps the best equipped force is East Africa in usage of state-of-the art technology to combat crime. The Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking device which Mr. Mbugua says will help fight cattle rustling and also recover stolen animals will be a milestone in ending the criminal activity.
In this new age criminals are known to exploit modern technology to execute crime and the police need not be left behind.  There are many ways, in fact quicker and better ICT solutions that should be used to fight crime the GPS being one of them. We appreciate this effort by the Kinuthia Mbugua-led administration police.
